FAQ

What is a Registered Dietitian?

Registered Dietitians (RD) are considered the experts in Nutrition.  The RD credential indicates that a practitioner has completed an undergraduate degree in the dietetic program, 900 hours of supervised nutrition practice, has passed a standardized national examination, and must complete 75+ hours of continuing education every five years. They can work in a variety of settings, but the majority of healthcare facilities are required to employ a RD to assess and treat the nutritional status of their patients. The use evidenced based practice and have extensive experience and knowledge in medical nutrition therapy.

Is a consultation to a Registered Dietitian something my insurance may cover?

Yes.  Medicare will cover 3 hours of Medical Nutrition Therapy the first year and 2 hours each year thereafter for the patients diagnosed with Diabetes or Kidney Disease when referred by a physician.  Other insurance companies may cover a larger variety of diagnosis such as cardiovascular disease, obesity, malnutrition, seizure disorder, severe allergies, gastrointestinal diseases, and many others that may be directly related to nutrition.  Please contact Nutrition to Grow to discuss further.

Can I still get help if I do not have a medical diagnosis?
